Employee Introduction

As an employee of the State of Wyoming, your successful performance and ongoing development are two critical components of achieving both agency and State-wide goals.  Although the public sector is often referred to as though it were a single person, the reality is that public sector is made up of multitudes of different people who contribute their individual skills, talents, knowledge and positive workplace behaviors to create an environment where the citizens of Wyoming can achieve their full potential.

As an employee of the State of Wyoming, it is important to make sure that the work you do is aligned to the goals and objectives of your department, your agency's performance measures, and ultimately to the State’s quality of life results.  The Employee Performance and Development System is a formal structure for you and your supervisor to ensure you are both clear about your work goals, how your success will be measured, areas where you may need further development in your job and where you may be interested in progressing and advance your career as a member of Wyoming’s public sector.  This process supports the ongoing alignment of your work to agency and government objectives, which in turn, provides you with the clarity and direction needed to understand how your contribution fits into the bigger picture.

The name captures it well - Employee Performance and Development – two components of one process.

Performance refers to your accomplishments over the year: setting work goals, identifying measures to demonstrate success in meeting those goals, and ensuring work goals advance the goals of the workgroup, agency and, ultimately, the State as a whole.

Development speaks to the ongoing process of job-related learning and growing in your ability to perform your job at the highest level possible.  In addition, development relates to acquiring new skills that will be necessary to be successful when encountering new job related demands or opportunities.

Two separate processes that, when taken together, help you retain your results and focus throughout the year while also planning for your continued growth and development.
